Holding Reading Seminars

    1. Implementation method:
      1. Prison inmates are the main body to form reading seminars for every inmate in different workshop. On a chosen day after a topic book having been read, an achievement presentation will be held, in which not only is a book study group invited into the Prison for comments but a program DJ from CSB radio station will also come and participate the presentation.
      2. Achievement presentation is performed in multiple dimensions such as introductory reading, acting the book, sharing what you learned, and topic discussion. Inmates may show different talents in conducting plays, acting, beau arts, presenting and writing and the topic book is thoroughly deliberated. They show up potential to their best and do increase the team spirit.
      3. After the presentation, each workshop will compile their works into a book comprising of related activity photos, comment writing and relevant records and burn DVD disks for other workshops to be watched and observed. The content of the presentation will be aired by CSB radio station.
    2. Implementation status:
    3.       There are about 20 reading achievement presentations held annually.
    4. Keynote Speech–Saying Goodbye to Sorrow and Embracing New Lives

In order to inspire the prisoners to regenerate, to improve themselves, and to face frustrations courageously, Taichung Women's Prison and Prison Fellowship Taiwan together invited the former Premier Mr. Chun-Hsiung Chang to give a keynote speech with the topic “Saying Goodbye to Sorrow and Embracing New Lives”. Hopefully, through the former premiere's encouragement, the prisoners can find their way out of the dark valley of their lives, walking toward new lives.

This event started with a welcome RAP and dancing performance the prisoners of the Taichung Women's Prison to greet the guests who came a long way. The warden of this prison, Hong-Chi Chiu, thanked the former premiere while giving an address, for his love and being able to devote himself with his wife to charity after leaving the politics world, making all the prisoners in this prison actually feel the care from the society. In the beginning of the keynote speech, the former premiere, Mr. Chang, led everyone to sing a song “The Person Who Misses His Home”. The meaning of this song is very close to the prisoners’ feelings inside. Many of the audience there were moved to tears. During the speech, the former premiere took a French gunrunner who eventually turned over a new leaf and devoted himself to charity even though he was disabled for example, to encourage the prisoners, expecting them to open their minds and hearts, changing their thoughts to face the difficulties before them. This way, they would be able to really say goodbye to sorrow and embrace new lives. At the end of the speech, Mr. Chang used a story of clams transforming sands into pearls with their body fluid to encourage everyone in pain to transform their minds and find another positive way change the current predicaments with the belief that there will definitely be a brand new life ahead waiting. The substantial keynote speech ended satisfactorily with the prayers led by Mr. Ming-Chen Huang, the general secretary of the Prison Fellowship Taiwan.
