Correction and Treatment for Inmates of Sexual and Social Custom Violations

Project Purpose

      To correct improper behavior of inmates that meet qualifications of this project by arranging mandatory psychological treatment or education. To lower the risk of recidivism by administering professional treatment measures, and thus protect public interests and social security.

Subjects

      Inmates serving a prison sentence for violation of Articles 221~227, 228, 229, 230, 234, Subparagraph 2 of Paragraph 2, Article 332, Subparagraph 2 of Article 334, or Subparagraph 1 of Paragraph 2, Article 348 of the Criminal Law, or provisions of the Criminal Special Law.

Contents of Treatment

Preparatory Group
  1. Subjects: Sex crime inmates 2 years before becoming eligible to apply for parole.
  2. Contents of Treatment: Discussion on inmates' adaptation to prison life, and preparation for future treatment courses.
  3. Treatment Personnel: Professional therapist.
Basic Treatment Group
  1. Subjects: Sex crime inmates evaluated to require psychological treatment.
  2. Contents of Treatment:
    (1) Introduction to group organization and treatment process.    (2)Physical boundaries and motives for change.
    (3)Discussion on growth background.     (4)Discussion on gender relationships.
    (5) Exploration of criminal history.    (6) Introduction to criminal history and cycle.     
    (7)Introduction to relapse model.     (8)Relapse prevention techniques–Internal control.
    (9)Relapse prevention techniques–External control.    (10) Relapse rehearsal.
    (11) Empathize with victims.     (12) Conclusion and review.
  3. Treatment Personnel: Professional therapist.
Individual Psychological Treatment
  1. Subjects: Sex crime inmates evaluated to require psychological treatment.
  2. Contents of Treatment: Basic treatment courses and individual condition discussion.
  3. Treatment Personnel: Professional therapist.
Guidance Courses
  1. Subjects:
    (1)Sex crime inmates evaluated to only require guidance.
    (2)Sex crime inmates who have already received psychological treatment.
  2. Contents of Treatment:
    (1) Law and change motive.    (2) Relapse prevention.
    (3)Interpersonal relationship–Communication.    (4) Mental health–Pressure and emotions management.
    (5)Mental health–Psychological diseases.    (6)Correct sexual knowledge.
    (7) Gender and family.     (8)Adaptation to future life.
  3. Treatment Personnel: Professional therapist.
Individual Psychological Guidance
  1. Subjects:
    (1)Sex crime inmates evaluated to only require guidance.
    (2)Sex crime inmates who have already received psychological treatment.
  2. Contents of Treatment: Individual condition discussion.
  3. Treatment Personnel: Professional therapist.
Individual Counseling
  1. Subjects: All sex crime inmates.
  2. Contents of Treatment: Individual condition counseling.
  3. Treatment: Counsel/Advisor.
Follow-Up Guidance Group
  1. Subjects: Sex crime inmates who have completed psychological treatment and guidance but have not been granted parole or pending discharge.
  2. Contents of Treatment: Follow-up on adaptation to prison life and learning condition.
  3. Treatment Personnel: Professional therapist.
After-Care Guidance Group
  1. Subjects:
    (1)Sex crime inmates evaluated to only require guidance.
    (2)Sex crime inmates who have already received psychological treatment.
  2. Contents of Treatment: Psychological preparation and after-care resource introduction before discharge.
  3. Treatment Personnel: Counseling professionals.

Domestic Violence Inmate Treatment Plan

Project Purpose

  1. To help subjects detect the cause and further change their cognition of violent behavior; learn correct emotion and pressure alleviation method, as well as non-violent interaction modes.
  2. To promote harmony in the family of subjects and help subjects learn family related knowledge.

Subjects

      Inmates detained or sentence to prison for domestic violence offense as described in Subparagraph 2 of Paragraph 1, Article 2 of the Domestic Violence Prevention Act, and violation of protection order in Paragraph 1, Article 61 of the same Act.

Contents of Treatment

Cognitive Guidance
  1. Subjects: All inmates who violated domestic violence or protection orders.
  2. Contents of Treatment:
    (1)Recognize violent behavior.    (2)Domestic violence prevention and related laws.
    (3)Nature of violence–Control and choice.    (4) Myth of violence.
    (5)Effects of violence.    (6) Emotion and pressure adjustment.
    (7)Techniques for responding to non-violent conflicts.     (8) Gender and family relationship.
  3. Treatment Personnel: Professional therapist.
Individual Treatment(Group/Individual Counseling)
  1. Subjects:
    (1) Domestic violence inmates.
    (2) Domestic violence prevention related legal education.
  2. Contents of Treatment: Ask inmates hypothetical questions in groups or individually to help them find the cause of their violent behavior, and ponder and practice how to change their behavior.
  3. Treatment Personnel: Professional therapist.
